For those who think the Xbox 360 has been forgotten, that is not the case.
A new exploit has been released for the Xbox 360, similar to what already exists on the PlayStation 3. However, there are some differences that I will explain. We are taking the first steps in this process. You know when a baby starts crawling? It’s kind of like that. We are at the beginning, but this is already a new exploit, and in this video, you will see everything. I’ll explain how this new method works.
This exploit also works on 2015 consoles. So, stay until the end because it’s worth understanding!

What is HyperVision?
HyperVision is an encryption system on the Xbox 360 that monitors all files running on the console. It acts as an inspector, checking everything that is loaded, downloaded, and executed. If it follows the rules, the system allows execution.
A hacker from the channel GrimDoesStuff decided to explore vulnerabilities in HyperVision to enable the execution of XEX files (Xbox 360 executables). This exploit allows homebrew and unsigned applications to run by tricking HyperVision into approving these files on an originally locked console.
How Does This Exploit Work?
Unlike RGH, this new method does not require opening the console or soldering. However, it is not permanent. If the console is turned off, the exploit is lost, requiring the process to be repeated.
This method is similar to the PlayStation 3 exploit, which keeps the console unlocked while it is on. As soon as it is turned off, the exploit disappears.
Many are waiting for this feature in LT 4.0, but it is still in its early stages. The hacker responsible focused only on breaking HyperVision’s security, leaving the development of tools and improvements to the community.
What Is Needed to Apply This Exploit?
To perform the process, you need the game Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland in the Xbox 360 version (not the original Xbox version). This game acts as a “trigger” to load the modified file.
What happens in practice is that the system believes it is loading a legitimate game, but in reality, it is executing modified code that activates the exploit.
Due to this functionality, the price of the game has skyrocketed, reaching approximately $400 on eBay.
The Unlocking Process According to the Hacker from GrimDoesStuff
- Download the necessary files and put them on a USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive into the Xbox 360 and start Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland.
- Load a modified “save game.”
- The console will freeze and display a red light for about 20 minutes.
- After this time, the green lights will start flashing until they stay solid.
- A jumping cat icon will appear, indicating that the exploit has been activated.

After this process, the console will be unlocked and able to run XEX files just like with RGH.
Risks and Expectations
This method works on the latest Dashboard version (17559) and even on Winchester boards (2015), something unprecedented since these consoles were not being unlocked until now.
A big question is whether Microsoft will release an update to block this vulnerability, just as Sony recently did with the PlayStation 3. However, Microsoft has mostly abandoned the Xbox 360 to focus on its newer projects, such as the Xbox One line and Game Pass.
The hacker released a full report explaining the flaw in detail and how to exploit it, which could make it easier for Microsoft to block it.
If Microsoft releases an update, the best course of action is to avoid updating the console, keeping the current version to preserve the exploit for those who see no issue in unlocking their consoles.
Conclusion
We are witnessing a significant advancement in Xbox 360 unlocking. Although this method is still in its early stages and has some limitations, the community may improve it and make it more efficient. If everything goes well, this exploit could become as practical as Rebug on the PlayStation 3, allowing anyone to use it without opening the console.
Let’s wait for the community’s next steps.
And you? Are you hoping Microsoft doesn’t block this potential breakthrough? Leave your comment!
